Unlike the displays of talent by the real life Philippe Petit, everything about ‘The Walk’ (2015) seems artificial. The scenery is too sleek, the characters are bland and uninteresting, the cinematography seems to be hijacked by the rollercoaster ride of CGI camera work and the narrative beats are simple ‘paint by the numbers’. But if you enjoy predictability in films and despise any kind of surprises then Robert Zemeckis ‘The Walk’ might be right up your alley. But James Marsh’s Oscar winning Documentary ‘Man on Wire’ (2008) is by far the better rendition of the “artistic crime of the century.”
